SWANA has received a very nice letter from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, thanking SWANA and solid waste professionals for their “tireless efforts” during the COVID-19 crisis. The letter recognizes SWANA for “advocating on behalf of the industry and providing critical information and resources to workers, lawmakers, and the media” concerning the impact of COVID-19 on waste management and recycling. Importantly, it thanks the “dedicated waste collectors, recyclers, drivers, engineers, technicians” and others who have made sure our communities stay safe and healthy during these challenging times.

SWANA today announced our partnership with Glad, maker of trash bags and plastic food storage containers, to establish a Sanitation Workers Support Fund to provide financial assistance to front-line solid waste and recycling collection workers in the United States and Canada adversely impacted by COVID-19.
