On May 15, Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq announced that Canada will commit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% below 2005 levels by 2030. New rules were also announced which are meant to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector, control emissions in the electricity sector, and update emissions standards for the chemical sector. Canada is currently not on track to meet its present emission reduction standard of 17% below 2005 levels by 2020. More information about the announcement can be found here. News & Updates
Manager Transfer Station (MTS) training took place in conjunction with our spring conference this year. Half a dozen students completed the training under A#1 instruction from Carol De La Franier and Nicole Steglich. As a result, Nicole is now a certified SWANA Instructor and a member of the SWANA International Faculty. Kudos to Nicole and Carol her Mentor! We held two very successful Landfill Operations Basics (LOB) training courses during the month of April. The first session was held in Vernon and the second in Whitehorse in partnership with Yukon College. Thanks to all who participated and to our two trainers Reinhard Trautmann and Mark Rowlands. We look forward to hold our next session this coming November in Cranbrook. A draft training schedule to 2019 has been posted on our website – click here to have a look. The training committee will be meeting soon to finalize sessions and locations…
