Chapter Conference 2015 a Great Success!

By May 7, 2015Events
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who participated in our learning sessions and conference during March 23 to 27, 2015.  The conference was jam packed full of great speakers and lots of networking opportunities. Our exhibit space was sold out and we had a host of generous sponsors support the event. Some of the feedback we received included comments like:
  • “The best lineup of speakers I have seen in a long time.”
  • “Everyone is taking back information and ideas for improvement that will be directly applicable to their operations.Time and money well spent.”
  • “Time to visit a new venue. We have been in the same place for over 10 years!”
We have taken your feedback into consideration and next year’s conference will be bigger and better. Here are some highlights:
  • In 2016 we host the SWANA Pacific Northwest Regional conference which only takes place in BC once every 3 years! We will have delegates from Washington and Oregon attending and anticipate doubling our attendance numbers.
  • The number of exhibit spaces will also double with up to 30 available.
  • Mark your calendar our conference dates are Thursday and Friday April 7 and 8th, 2016.
  • Our location is yet to be determined as we are in negotiations with several venues in the Lower Mainland, but save those dates!
A big note of thanks and show of appreciation is due to the members of the Conference Organizing Team: Mark Rowlands, Alida Kusch, Nicole Steglich, Al Lynch, Mark Watt, and Emy Lai. Their enthusiasm, hard work and great ideas culminated in a super event! If you are interested in joining our Organizing Team for our 2016 Conference please contact Alda [email protected]

Landfill Gas Day

On March 25, 2015, the day before the conference, Mark Watt organized a superb group of experts to discuss issues and successes related to the implementation and operation of landfill gas systems. Thirty-five individuals from the private and public sector met in a round table format to exchange ideas and information.  As a result of this session we are considering holding a SWANA Introduction to Landfill Gas Systems in November of this year.  Watch our website for updates.

Preventing Landfill Fires

For the first time in BC, on March 24th, Tony Sperling taught his Preventing Landfill Fires course.  The next time he is slated to teach it in BC is 2018 but if you are interested in attending the course earlier, contact Tony   [email protected] to see what opportunities might be available. We look forward to hosting this event once again!
