Sperling Hansen Associates is seeking a Senior Engineer.

Sperling Hansen Associates (SHA), is a highly specialized environmental engineering consultancy that excels in landfill design and other solid waste related work and has offices in North Vancouver, Kamloops, Terrace and the Bahamas.

Since the company was founded in 1995, our team has consistently produced creative and high-quality designs for our valued municipal, regional and private sector clients.  Our work encompasses a broad range of disciplines including civil, geotechnical and environmental engineering.

At a Glance

To support our team in long term projects we have an immediate opening for a talented and motivated Senior Engineer with a degree in civil, environmental or geotechnical engineering and specific experience in landfill design, solid waste management and/or civil earthworks.

We offer a base salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Managing solid waste related engineering projects (e.g. landfill closure designs, leachate collection and treatment system designs, landfill gas collection system design, design and operations plans, tender packages, feasibility studies relating to GHG mitigation and solid waste management etc.);
  • Report writing and presentations to clients;
  • Site visits to facilities and project sites;
  • Preparing contract specifications and supervising construction projects;
  • Providing engineering input, guidance, and review to new and ongoing design projects;
  • Supervision of staff undertaking field investigations, including drilling, soil and water sampling;
  • Training junior engineering staff on the job;
  • Assisting the President in marketing SHA’s services;
  • Participating in teaching assignments with SWANA and in-house courses;
  • Other duties as applicable.

Qualifications

The following is a list of attributes of the ideal candidate:

  • Membership or eligibility for immediate membership as a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Have a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience,
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary projects involving various engineering disciplines,
  • Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations and guidelines as they apply in British Columbia,
  • Able to work and contribute individually and as part of a team, being a self-starter,
  • Willingness to travel to remote sites when the need arises,
  • Must be Canadian Resident or have valid work permit,
  • Carry a Class 5 Driver’s License,
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have relevant solid waste experience.
