RFP โ€“ National Survey and Study of the Lubrication Oil and Antifreeze Container Circular Economy

The Used Oil Management Associations of Canada manage the collection and recycling of lubricating oil and antifreeze containers distributed in Canada to the residential and commercial sectors, creating a circular economy. Almost all oil and antifreeze containers distributed in Canada are single material HDPE plastic, which is easily recycled. Plastics, however, is a product material type that is subject to new and increasingly strict requirements, public pressure and possible bans. Understanding how packaging and product manufacturers are responding to the changing business and regulatory environment is important for circular economy policy development by the UOMAs. Material use bans (e.g. certain containers, bags, pouches) or plastic types could force manufacturing changes on products sold by UOMA members. Product redesign could allow for more container reuse or could have unintended consequences for recycling.
