A Slack forum is available for all to share information in real time (you do not need to be a member to join)!

Maryland Governor Thanks SWANA for Efforts During COVID-19 Crisis

SWANA has received a very nice letter from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, thanking SWANA and solid waste professionals for their “tireless efforts” during the COVID-19 crisis. The letter recognizes SWANA for “advocating on behalf of the industry and providing critical information and resources to workers, lawmakers, and the media” concerning the impact of COVID-19 on waste management and recycling. Importantly, it thanks the “dedicated waste collectors, recyclers, drivers, engineers, technicians” and others who have made sure our communities stay safe and healthy during these challenging times. SWANA & Glad Sanitation Workers Support Fund

SWANA today announced our partnership with Glad, maker of trash bags and plastic food storage containers, to establish a Sanitation Workers Support Fund to provide financial assistance to front-line solid waste and recycling collection workers in the United States and Canada adversely impacted by COVID-19. COVID-19 – Protecting Yourself and Your Employees

The global situation regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve on a daily basis.  Thankfully the transmission risk level in BC and the Yukon remains low at this time, but here are some basic steps you can take to protect yourself, and ideas on how businesses can protect their staff: What you can do to protect yourself: Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, don’t touch your face and cover your cough or sneeze. Monitor yourself for symptoms, including cough, sneezing, fever, sore throat and difficulty breathing. Call the public health line at 8-1-1 if you have symptoms, particularly if you have recently travelled abroad. Stay home when you are sick.
