SWANA, like the rest of the world, is continuing to learn about COVID-19 and measures to minimize risk and slow the transmission in our province.  Here are a few links where you can find COVID-19 information related to our industry:

Slack Forum

A Slack forum is available for all to share information in real time (you do not need to be a member to join)!

  • Instructions for those who have not used Slack before: Click on the link to join on your desktop (web-based) or download the app to your mobile device (you can click the link on your mobile and it will go to the app)
  • Update your name with your organization in brackets so we can see who is on slack
  • Join #channels of interest and start asking the community questions. All items posted in the slack forum will also be noted in the summary of solutions.
  • Invite your colleagues and peers with the link.
  • Ask the slack bot if you aren’t sure how to use slack

Sanitation Workers Support Fund

Solid waste and recycling collection is a critical and essential part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The men and women working in the waste and recycling collection industry are on the front lines of protecting human health and the environment. SWANA is collaborating with Glad to support sanitation workers across the United States and Canada personally affected by COVID-19 through the Sanitation Workers Support Fund.

WASTECON® Transitions to Virtual Event in January 2021

Silver Spring, MD – Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and concern for the health and safety of participants, the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) has cancelled the WASTECON® that would have taken place December 7-10 in Dallas, Texas. SWANA’s executive leadership summit for the solid waste and recycling industries will be transformed into a virtual conference in late January 2021 that will bring together public and private sector waste industry leaders and professionals from the safety of their own homes and offices.

2.4 million facial coverings requested for solid waste and recycling workers

Silver Spring, MD – The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) has collected and submitted orders for cloth face coverings on behalf of the entire U.S. solid waste and recycling industry to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). HHS, along with other federal partners, are providing cloth face coverings at no cost to essential critical infrastructure workers in the United States. SWANA was asked to assist in the distribution by promoting the program and collecting orders.
