Virtual Event – June 8, 2021 (10:00 – 11:00 AM PDT)

Sponsored by Veolia Canada

As waste diversion goals and disposal regulations/food waste bans become standard practices in BC, organics processing has surfaced as a critical topic in the solid waste industry. Join us for a webinar that covers topics that range from facility design to operational realities of traditional and advanced organics processing systems. With this session, SWANA and Veolia aim to provide an in-depth discussion of some of the most pertinent logistical, operational and technological considerations currently at play in organics processing.

SWANA is pleased to award one (1) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) for those in attendance.

SWANA Pacific uses the Zoom Platform for our training and webinar events. There is a dial-in option available however participants must confirm ahead of time with phone number in order to be admitted to the event.

Michael Cant is a Principal in the Solid Waste Group at GHD. He is involved in a number of municipal procurement projects for organics facilities across Canada. He has over 30 years of experience working on solid waste projects across Canada

Mike will speak to the owner's technical representative role on procurement projects. Projects typically start with a technical feasibility study – evaluation of different technologies, high level capital and operations costing and information on key drivers like feedstock, diversion, end product quality, biogas, odour etc. This information is used to inform a business case and identify risk allocation. Evaluation of procurement approaches – merchant capacity versus public ownership - and various procurement models is also assessed. The end result being the development of the procurement approach.
