ABOUT THE COURSE

SWANA’s Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems (ISWM) is designed to improve the knowledge of individuals that manage municipal solid waste management systems while addressing the many and varied duties of the solid waste system manager. Master concepts of planning, developing and managing solid waste systems are discussed along with specific system management issues.

Who Should Attend?

The ISWM training course is intended for current and future managers of government solid waste management systems and other industry professionals that may work in an advisory or consulting capacity with municipal waste managers.

Course Objectives:

This comprehensive 3-day training course consists of lectures, discussions amongst participants, class activities and exercises. This course gives waste management professionals an excellent overview of the various issues involved in the management of solid waste systems including:

  • Planning, regulatory considerations and public education
  • Facility basics (landfills, transfer stations, waste-to-energy facilities)
  • Collection systems
  • Recycling and reuse program
  • Management of hard-to-handle wastes
  • Composting
  • Incorporating emerging concepts (product stewardship, zero waste, conversion technologies, greenhouse gas reduction and renewable energy options) into existing systems
  • Funding options, budgeting and contracting and procurement
  • Health and safety
  • Personnel management

The course provides many opportunities for discussion and collaboration among participants, including instructor-led discussions and a comprehensive course exercise designed to reinforce the concepts presented.

What is the Refund Policy?

A full refund minus a $75 administration fee will be issued prior to 30 days (October 18, 2019) before the Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems Course. Full charge applicable thereafter. Although refunds will not be issued within 30 days of the training which the participant is registered for, substitutions ARE allowed.
