- Capture your Landfill Gas and Sell it to Green Consumers: A Win-Win Scenario (with Erin Craig, TerraPass)
Greenhouse gas emission reduction projects are a great way for landfill
owners to help reduce global warming while adding an ongoing income
stream. With the sales price of carbon credits at its highest point in
many years, now is a great time to re-evaluate methane capture and
destruction projects you might have considered out of reach.
This presentation will summarize the mechanics of developing and
selling greenhouse gas emission reduction credits, and then delve into
the benefits of the retail consumer marketplace as a sales channel for
your credits. Green consumers seek ways to take personal responsibility
for their climate impact, providing a uniquely positive means of
earning carbon income without providing permission to pollute. Specific
examples of landfills which are a great fit for consumers will be
highlighted.

- The New Role of Section 45 and Carbon Credit Monetization in the Development and Financing of Landfill Gas Projects
(with R. Steven Lynch, TheCarbonAuction)
This session will
briefly review the history and current status of the US market for
Carbon Credits, summarize procedures for maximizing their value to
Landfill Owner/Operators, discuss recent examples of how carbon credits
and Section 45 Production Tax Credits have been monitized, and discuss
how these attributes can greatly facilitate the development and
financing of landfill gas to energy projects.

- The REC and Carbon Markets: Where and How should LFGE play?
(with Nubia Perez, Element Markets)
As
the Carbon Markets emerge, LFG is an unique position to capitalize on
revenue opportunities in the voluntary markets as well as the emerging
compliance markets. Depending on the projects' specifications,
developers can optimize around different protocols and financing
structures, as well as leverage the convergence between RECs and
Carbon. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the
regulatory treatment for landfills under different markets, including
the Chicago Climate Exchange, the Voluntary Carbon Standard, CA Climate
Action Registry, and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, while
specifically highlighting each protocols' treatment of Renewable Energy
Credits. Participants will have the opportunity to ask project-specific
questions.

- The Role of Landfill Gas (LFG) in the US Voluntary Carbon Market
(with Katie Dunn, Blue Source)
This discussion will explore the
basic requirements and the process for creating carbon offset credits
from LFG following a quick overview of the state of the voluntary
carbon market in the US and the various regional cap and trade
initiatives and standards. With existing environmental regulations for
landfills, such as NSPS, and varying regional legislation for emissions
reductions, understanding how to create carbon credit value from LFG
can be dizzying. This discussion aims to clarify how landfill owners
and managers can identify eligible projects and maximize LFG value by
creating carbon credits. We will look at an example landfill and see
how carbon offset credits can enhance a landfill's economics and
profits.
