On May 15, Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq announced that Canada will commit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% below 2005 levels by 2030. New rules were also announced which are meant to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector, control emissions in the electricity sector, and update emissions standards for the chemical sector. Canada is currently not on track to meet its present emission reduction standard of 17% below 2005 levels by 2020. More information about the announcement can be found here.
